Freight Car Trucks

Messaggio da enzofortuna » 20/01/2021, 14:48

The June 2018 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist featured an article by Richard Bale on freight car trucks.
It's an in-depth article with many illustrations. Here is a link:

http://mrhpub.com/2018-06-jun/online/

Click on "Read Now", then go to the Table of Contents.

And courtesy of Tony Thompson, an illustrated and well-researched article by the late Richard Hendrickson in the May 2013 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist:

Click on "Portrait" or "Landscape", go over a few pages to the Table of Contents and then click on the article title.

If you are upgrading older freight cars there are many good choices for replacement trucks. This is a good resource to guide your purchases.

Richard Hendrickson also published a guide to HO scale trucks. This guide was last updated in 2014:

Again, also courtesy of Tony Thompson.

N-scale Supply has page with diagrams and pictures of most (all?) Micro-Trains trucks.
https://www.nscalesupply.com/mtl/mtl-nscaletrucks.html

Spookshow.net also has a page dedicated to North American prototype n-scale trucks
http://www.spookshow.net/trucks/trucks.php

To help you figure out which of these trucks is appropriate for your era, here's a guide Model Railroad Hobbyist published

All About Freight Car Trucks

An expanded and updated version of the late Richard Hendrickson’s illustrated guide to HO scale freight car trucks is available on this link and may be downloaded for your reference files:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bz_ctrH ... ef=2&pli=1

The revised document is 15 pages.
This is a good reference document for all scales if you are interested in prototype modeling details.
Richard also did an article with a lot of commentary titled "Freight Car Trucks: 1900-1960".
This article is on prototype trucks and appeared in the May 2013 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist. This information is useful across all scales.

I’m sure some of you who model in N scale were disappointed that Richard Hendrickson’s article on freight car trucks only focused on HO scale trucksDon’t despair. Here is a link to a similar article, with photo links, titled “Freight Car Trucks In N: A Pictorial Comparison” by Daniel Leavitt:
